Staff

Team Ruckus is made up of child care professionals who have been selected according to the highest qualifications.  Child care experience, combined with early childhood educational backgrounds, make our team well-trained and dedicated to enhancing children’s learning.  All staff members are required to participate in ongoing professional educational opportunities including workshops or college classes to enhance skills and interests.

It is recognized that the most important measure of quality is the relationship between child and caregiver.  Team Ruckus supports children’s learning by providing the space, opportunities and materials for them to explore and learn through play.  Ruckus House staff members engage in many one-on-one, face-to-face interactions with children.  Routines such as feeding or diapering become learning times for younger children.  Additionally, the staff facilitates the development of self-control in children by using positive guidance techniques, such as modeling and encouraging acceptable behavior.

Amy Giles:  Moss Creek Director

I have worked with young children for more than15 years. I have been a part of the Ruckus House family for 6 years.  I have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Rowan Cabarrus Community College and am in the process of continuing education.  For me, witnessing the accomplishments of milestones in young lives is a great reward. I believe that children learn best when they are provided a safe, loving, and stimulating environment.  My staff and I are dedicated to doing just that daily.

My family is always on the go!  Between high school football, marching band, cub scouts and not to mention dedication to our church, we are a very busy family.  I enjoy singing and participating in sports.  And yes, I am a Carolina Panthers fan!

I am so blessed!  Over and over again, God has shone Himself strong in my life.  I am so thankful for all His goodness. I pray everyday that someone would see God’s kindness through the grace He has shown to me. I count it a privilege to work with godly men and women who want nothing more than to honor God in everything they do.

Monica McMillan:  Moss Creek Assistant Director

My name is Monica McMillan.  I am the oldest child of three siblings.  I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I was married for 23 years; however I am now a single mother of three wonderful children.  I also have a beautiful granddaughter.  I began working in child care to be able to be with my children during a work day.  After a short time in the child care field, I developed a passion for young children. It was then I decide I wanted to become an Early Childhood Professional.  I have since earned an AAS degree in Early Childhood Education.  My experience serves me well, but educating myself to how children grow and develop has been key to day to day interactions with the children in my care.  I want to make sure every child at the Ruckus House has a rich experience by providing an atmosphere where they can learn new skills and concepts while feeling safe and confident.

I have been teaching at the Ruckus House for 3 years.  After working as a teacher and advocate for young children, I developed a desire to work in administration. As a result, I was promoted to the Pre-K Program Coordinator and now Assistant Director.  I’m honored to take this position and use it as an opportunity to help the Ruckus House Learning change the lives of young children.  Our goal is to grow the best child care program in America.  Thank you for allowing me to serve your family!

Megan Easter: Program Coordinator for 2 and 3 Year Olds

I have been a part of the Ruckus House family since March 2008.  I have been the lead teacher in our two year old program since I have been here.   I am originally from New York.   I moved to North Carolina in 2000 after graduating with a BA in Human Services.  I started my wonderful career as a teacher in 2000 as a lead teacher for 3 through 5 year olds.  Shortly after, I became a 2 year old lead teacher and have been a 2 year old program ever since.  I just love those twos!

After moving to North Carolina, I received teaching credentials and NCECAC Level 1 and 2.  I am continually training and educating myself to learn as much as I can in this growing field of Early Childhood Education.

I married a wonderful man in February 2003 and started our beautiful family.  We have 8 children (yes I said 8); 5 dogs, 2 cats and a turtle which we love dearly.  I am often traveling to New York to visit my sister and to Florida to visit my brother’s family.  I love to scrapbook, craft all sorts, swim, and travel and volunteer my time amongst many organizations.  I volunteer with the greyhound rescue; I am a co-leader of girl scouts and the president of my community HOA.  I love teaching especially when what I can see that I have made a difference in the children’s lives. I love to see how they grow.  I love to hear their cute little stories.  I just love the children!

Kristen Fortin: Progam Coordinator for School-Agers

I was born and raised in Southern California.  I received a BA from the University of California @ Berkeley in Mass Communications.  For three and a half years, I was a police officer in California, ultimately becoming a school resource officer in a high school and tact officer at a youth leadership academy.  My husband and I moved to North Carolina in 2004.  We have two children of our own and are foster parents as well.

I have been a part of the Ruckus House since the opening of the Moss Creek location in 2007. I was first a three year old teacher. I have since worked with infants and am very excited to now have the opportunity to work with our school age children.

I believe we all are teachers and we all are students. We can learn from others.  Children have a great need to be noticed, appreciated and heard.  I learn from them just as they learn from me.  My goal is to find opportunities daily to encourage children to build character, be true to their sense of self, grow in God’s love and share goodness with others.  I enjoy community service and creative activities.

Kids are in school all day…let’s have fun in the after school at the Ruckus House!
